about US
Rotary is synonymous to service. Ask any true blooded Rotarian what his motivation is in joining the Rotary and invariably the answer can be summed up in one word - SERVICE. Among the ranks of a Rotary Club are the achievers and the go-getters. the people who make things happen and how!
The Rotary Club of Pasig East was a product of this genre of Men. A brainchild of Past President Jing Jose and President Peter Javier of the Mother Club, The Rotary Club of Pasig, they shared the belief that branching out will enable the club to encompass a wider scope of service areas. There are enough men willing to put their share.
Leadership is a quality not common to all but to Leo Magtibay, it is a way of life. Being tasked with the singular honor of steering the Rotary Club of Pasig East to greater heights was a responsibility he accepted without reservations. But the path towards achieving a solid and workable system of organization is no way easy."Growing pains" were inevitable, such that objections were raise from some sectors questioning the advisability of branching out at a time when the mother club was beefing up its membership.
By March of 1988, the organizational meeting of the provisional Rotary Club of Pasig East was held at the Valle Verde Country Club, and regular luncheon meetings were set every Wednesday, thereafter. This officially started the ball rolling. With an initial contributing Php 1,000 to the club's fund, an all-out campaign for recruitment followed. Two months later, the Club was duly recognized and represented during the DISCON '88. Then on March 16, 1988 a fireside chat was held at the Valle Verde Country Club where 12 prospective members attended. This orientation meeting was conducted by President, Peter John Javier and Secretary, Ammie Llona of the Mother club. This meeting was also attended by no less than the District Governor, Tinio Cacanindin of District 3800 who gave a brief inspirational remark concerning Rotary.
Ad Hoc committees were organized to handle the activities of the charter, Leo together with James, Oscar and Jun worked for the adoption of the constitution and by-laws. Ammie, Flor, Ding, Dan, and Paul took charge of the charter presentation, while Jolan, Cezar, Rudy, Nemie, Jun S., Art, Rodner and Popeye were assigned to handle special projects and lastly, Dondi, James, and Rod were tasked with handling the Club's purse strings.
To raise more funds for the Club, a poker invitational Tournament and Family Bingo Social was held last May 15 at the Valle Verde Country Club, co-sponsored by the UP Vanguard Pasig Chapter. Working as a team, Jolan, Flor, Popeye, Leo, Cezar and Rolls who handled the game while Dinky, Oscar, Rudy, Ding, Roll and Art, who handled arrangements, outbid themselves resulting in the affair being a huge success. Their efforts netted a substantial sum to the club's coffers.
By the middle of May, the members were ready to elect the Board of Directors for Rotary Year 1988-1989. Elected President was Leo Magtibay, President Elect was Ammie Llona, and Directors were Dinky Einsiedel, Rudy Mercado, Jolan Rebong, James Sandoval, Flor Serreto, Paul Shotwell and Art Sanches. For the executive body, the board confirmed the appointments of Lito Fajardo as Secretary, Doni Onglengco as Treasurer, Ding Mercado as Auditor, Cesar Coruna as Protocol Officer, Oscar Judan as Sgt. At Arms and Jing Jose as Presidential Adviser.
With the elections over, the Club is presently gearing up the charter presentation set for June 28, 1988. Ammie Llona who was appointed Chairman of the charter presentation was working double time to get things in order prior to the presentation date while everyone else was contributing their fair share.
The charter papers were finally submitted to the Rotary International on June 9, 1988 and immediately approved on June 16, 1988.
The concept of the Rotary started out as mere idea in mind of it's founder, Paul Harris. Through the years it has caught fire in the hearts and minds of people like Paul who believed in the ideal of service as the real basis for attaining success and happiness in their personal, business and community lives.
The Rotary Club of Pasig East is a testimony of that belief and an avenue whereby people of kindred spirit can unite together to be of service to their fellowmen.
